Position Summary

American Esoteric Laboratories (AEL), a Sonic Healthcare Company, is a community-based leader in laboratory medicine dedicated to provide quality care, innovative solutions, and personal service.  AEL has serviced the medical community for more than 50 years with a strong community presence throughout the Mid-South encompassing Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.  AEL has a far-reaching infrastructure including a 154-vehicle fleet tracking over 3,500 stops a day.  AEL is embedded within the communities servicing several Patient Service Centers (PSCs). 

 

AEL is the largest independent laboratory network in Tennessee and the Mid-South offering a broad spectrum of clinical laboratory services dedicated to provide accurate and diagnostically meaningful results.  AEL has an extensive test menu including hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation studies, toxicology, cytology, histology, and comprehensive microbiology services.  AEL is committed to delivering personalized customer service to support clients.  

 

American Esoteric Laboratories Inc, (AEL), is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversees the daily operation of the laboratory with an emphasis on quality assurance, operations, human resources management, leadership and interpretive skills to provided quality laboratory results to facilitate patient care management. 

Job Description/ Duties:

  • Supervise staff including scheduling, work assignments, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc
  • Directs, plans and manages assigned section(s) in alignment with the department and laboratory goals
  • Organizes and coordinates services provided, oversees operations, and manages staff and budget in accordance with laboratory’s policies and procedures
  • Responsible for strategic development: develops staff to meet new and existing needs
  • Works on interdisciplinary teams and projects to further the overall goals of the organization
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the leadership standards and core values of the lab
  • Responsible for the total operations, including directing and or training subordinates working during their assigned shift. 
  •  Performs all assays according to the laboratory's protocols and procedures, establishes validity test results, accurately transcribes, reviews and reports tests results, performs all necessary computer functions in order to manage tests data, verify test procedures, and establish the laboratory's performance criteria. 
  • Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.
  • Ensures that patient's results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
  • Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory instruments according to established protocol.
  • Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and standardization on all instruments within an established time frame and keeps accurate and up to date records of such performance and quality control checks.  Recognizes any malfunction of instruments and takes immediate corrective action to restore proper operation of the instrument(s).
  • Notifies clinician when test results will be delayed.  Follows all safety policies including but not limited to general safety, hazardous communication, Chemical Hygiene Plan and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Adheres to professional ethical standards.  Maintains verifiable records at an institution or facility that has a published records retention policy that is equal to or exceeds the retention required by federal, tribal and/or state regulations
  • Maintains the confidentiality of any information received from any person or source about a client/patient

Knowledge/ Education:

Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university or have graduated from a Medical Technology School approved by a recognized accrediting organization.

 

Experience:

6 years of supervisory experience

 

Licensure, Registration, Certification:

Must be a registered Medical Technologist and maintain throughout employment. 

 

Physical Requirements:

Work requires some physical effort. Lifting or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) is required.
