  • Position Summary

    American Esoteric Laboratories (AEL), a Sonic Healthcare Company, is a community-based leader in laboratory medicine dedicated to provide quality care, innovative solutions, and personal service.  AEL has serviced the medical community for more than 50 years with a strong community presence throughout the Mid-South encompassing Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.  AEL has a far-reaching infrastructure including a 154-vehicle fleet tracking over 3,500 stops a day.  AEL is embedded within the communities servicing several Patient Service Centers (PSCs). 

     

    AEL is the largest independent laboratory network in Tennessee and the Mid-South offering a broad spectrum of clinical laboratory services dedicated to provide accurate and diagnostically meaningful results.  AEL has an extensive test menu including hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation studies, toxicology, cytology, histology, and comprehensive microbiology services.  AEL is committed to delivering personalized customer service to support clients.

     

    American Esoteric Laboratories Inc, (AEL), is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Laboratory team.

     

    Role and Responsibilities

    This position directs and manages the daily operation and activities for the core laboratory.  This position also supports and participates in achieving quality improvement, productivity, customer/employee satisfaction and fiscal goals and objectives established by management. This position reports to the Vice President of Technical Operations.  Incumbents are subject to overtime and callback as required.

     

    Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

    1. Ensures the effective and timely reporting of results and interpretations of laboratory information, for patient diagnosis and management.
    2. Ensures that the laboratory is maintained such that it meets all required and legislated accreditation standards.
    3. Assists in the development and implementation of processes that ensure the accuracy, precision and clinical relevance of laboratory tests results.
    4. Responsible for the establishment and supervision of appropriate testing procedures and standards related to such procedures.
    5. Monitors quality improvement initiatives to identify variances and initiate corrective action as required.
    6. Provides input to the preparation and maintenance of the laboratory’s operating and capital equipment budget.
    7. Ensures that laboratory staff are technically competent and have access to required core skills and technical educational programs.
    8. Communicates effectively with clients, physicians and other department employees to exchange information, secure cooperation and coordinated activities to meet company goals and objectives.
    9. Performs related accountabilities as required or directed.

     

    Knowledge, Education Requirements and Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or National Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP, NCA or equivalent)
    2. Medical Laboratory General Supervisor License from the State of Tennessee Health Related Board.
    3. Strong overall knowledge of the clinical laboratory including quality control, quality assurance, test methods and instrumentation.
    4. Demonstrates skill to supervise, train and motivate staff.
    5. Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills
    6. Ability to interact with others, promoting a harmonious and cooperative working environment
    7. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory.

     

    Experience

    A minimum of 5 years of laboratory supervisory experience within a clinical laboratory setting.

     

    Physical Requirements

    Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of the time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).

     

    Environmental Conditions

    Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements, may involve exposure to a variety of elements which are potentially hazardous or harmful which require exercise of well-defined precautions for protection from injury or illness.
